As is the case every year, the highlight of our program at the Charney Resolution Center is the Peace Talks Simulation with the EMIS students. This year, the CRC in conjunction with EMIS decided to create one joint process to inform the students about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict derived from events both organizations have done before.
The process includes Two Days of Preparation (CRC & EMIS) - A day dedicated to teaching the EMIS students about the conflict (led by Dr. Shaul Arieli, Dr. Sapir Handelman and Sulaiman Khatib) and a second day dedicated to teaching them the skills to resolve conflicts (I See Pixels, Non-Violent Communication, Mediation - A Key Tool For Resolving Conflicts, Activism, Handling Conflicting Views, Asking Hard Questions Within The Conflict, Empathy Through Movement and Through Media). We ended the second day with a screening of the film “Humans of EMIS” by Jaime Musso (2020 EMIS graduate) and a group game “Nature Knows No Borders” with Lindsey Semler.
Mission Week (EMIS) - The students get acquainted with the conflict by participating in a tour of all the borders of Israel accompanied by given lectures. Extra preparation days are included throughout the month of March before the peak of the process, which is the Peace Talks Simulation itself. The 11th graders (DP1) are participating in it, being led by 12th graders (DP2), who will be guiding the younger students through it alongside a number of outside experts who participate in real peace talks.
