Expectations, thoughts, and goals upon arriving:
During my time at the Leon Charney diplomacy program, I hope to deepen my understanding of global politics and international relations. My interest in these topics has been raised especially after attending EMIS, a high school that focuses on Middle Eastern politics. Having had a small introduction to the Model United Nations already, I became extremely interested in continuing my MUN experience as I have learned that the simulations of real-life negotiations is one of the best tools to prepare for challenging political issues. As there are many sides to a problem, it is usually a matter of communication, public speaking, representation, seeing whether effective solutions can be found, and that compromises can be made.
Other than that, I have been involved with Leon Charney’s legacy for two years in which I became more aware of the significance of foreign relations in peacemaking. This makes me want to continue keeping his legacy alive and, in this case, broaden my perspective from Israel to the US.
As for my expectations, I hope that the Leon Charney diplomacy program will give me a platform to think of creative and innovative solutions to global issues and complex political problems and intensify my understanding of the politics of specific countries and regions. Having experience in diplomacy for me is extremely important as it is an essential life skill and tool in almost any path. Knowing how to communicate effectively and convincingly is something necessary in politics and beyond.
Most of all, in this program, I would like to meet many interesting and intelligent people who share my motivation and interest in foreign relations. A passionate and inspired environment is key to development.
