Kylie Masshardt, a member of the FAU Leon Charney Diplomacy Program, delivered a presentation about the life and legacy of Leon Charney to a freshman world politics class on December 5th.
Kylie reviewed Leon’s modest upbringing and his remarkable success in the world of real estate, but primarily focused on the role that Leon played as a back-door channel in the Camp David Peace Accord negotiations that brought peace to Israel and Egypt through the “land-for-peace” formula. According to Kylie, “Leon Charney is FAU’s hero and our role model. All the students in the Charney Diplomacy Program hope to follow in his footsteps.”
Kylie, along with 74 other FAU students, represented the university in the 2019 National Model United Nations competition in Washington, D.C., from November 8-11. The Charney delegation received a conference-high five awards for academic excellence. In 2018, the Program won its first national title at the competition.
In April, the students will next compete in Nationals in New York City.
