In the past weeks, I have been involved with one of my main projects, the ‘Humans of EMIS’ documentary. I built a team of 6 students from EMIS. Picking the students was particularly hard, given that we wanted a diverse mix in terms of nationality and political opinions, while at the same time considering that not everyone is comfortable talking about their personal experiences in front of a camera.
At the same time, I had to build my studio. I took over the Charney Center Director’s office (thank you Sari) and organized all the logistics: filming equipment, background, and lighting (thanks Daniel, EMIS social guide). I wanted a black background for my interviews, so that the face of the student pops out of the screen. At first, I built a backdrop using old fabric that I found in the art room.
After talking to Maya Kogan (Head of Admissions and Marketing at EMIS), she agreed to purchase a professional backdrop for the school, that will also be used for other photography projects. I am very thankful to her for this because it will certainly improve the quality of my documentary. It took a lot of creativity and help to put my studio together, but it’s finally done. Overall, I am happy with how the collaboration between CRC and EMIS is going.
I will start interviewing the students next week, which makes me feel both excited and a little anxious, as I hope everything will work out well. However, I believe all students that we picked have amazing stories to tell, which means the final result will certainly be interesting and insightful!
