On Sunday, December 1st, all EMIS students gathered for an introductory meeting with the Charney Resolution Center (CRC). The meeting began with Sari Marom-Shaanan, the center's director, who introduced the CRC, explained its mission, and reflected on the decade-long collaboration between the CRC and EMIS. This anniversary marks a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between the two institutions.
Tzili Charney, the founder of the CRC, sent her warm greetings to the students, expressing her hope for brighter days ahead and reaffirming the shared vision of the CRC and EMIS.
The day’s main lecture was delivered by Israela Oron, an Israeli security expert, active participant in the Geneva Initiative, and a close friend of the CRC since its inception. Israela spoke about the legacy of Leon Charney, emphasizing his significant contributions and unwavering commitment to peace. She also discussed activism, protests, and the qualities necessary to become an activist. One student remarked, “The lecture was very interesting and inspiring.”
The highlight of the day followed the lecture: the announcement of the council's decision to establish a liaison committee between EMIS and the CRC. This committee will work to strengthen the shared vision and collaboration between the two organizations.
Following Israela's lecture, two exciting new projects were launched at EMIS. The first project, initiated by the liaison committee, features a series of lectures by various speakers, designed to enrich students’ understanding of global issues and ideas. The second initiative is a Solution-Focused Negotiation course, led by Dr. Sapir Handelman, an associate professor and founder of the NGO Minds of Peace. Dr. Handelman will guide students through the course, which is set to begin in early 2025.
It was a productive and inspiring day, marking a successful first meeting of the year. Students showed great interest in Israela's lecture, with several mentioning that it was one of the best they had attended since joining EMIS. Many also expressed enthusiasm for enrolling in Dr. Handelman’s course. The event sparked excitement for upcoming projects, and several students eagerly shared their interest in collaborating with the CRC.
Everyone left the meeting feeling energized and optimistic about the future.
